A room of her own : Group exhibition
NOTAGALLERY
OPENING ON 08 MARCH 2025
Notagallery is excited to announce its upcoming group exhibition, A room of her own. This exhibition brings together and amplifies the voices of female photographers who, through their art, illuminate the multifaceted narratives of women. Here, women are not passive subjects but compelling agents of change, shaping stories—their own and those of others—with authenticity and power.
In this space, we challenge the hegemony of the male-dominated artistic gaze that has long defined visual culture. Through feminist interventions, we invite viewers to reimagine the landscape of contemporary photography. While traditional fine art has historically marginalized or erased the contributions of women, photography emerges as a liberating medium—one that allows women to reclaim authority over their own representation. These artists confront and deconstruct the ways in which women have been objectified and constrained by societal expectations, offering instead a vision of empowerment and self-determination.
Rooted in the legacy of second-wave feminism—which demanded visibility for women within the art world—this exhibition is both a tribute and a continuation of that struggle. The women behind the camera don't just document, they disrupt. Through their lens, they invite us to engage in the intricate interplay between identity, power and body, discovering the nuanced dimensions of femininity that embrace the intimate and the collective, the individual and the universal.
Artists:
Alice Brunello Luise, Anastasia Shik, Anna Morosini, Delfina Carmona, Giorgia Bovo, Liora K, Marina Monaco, Masha Demianova, Monika Kozub aka Berlin Boudoir, Rebecca Sulzer.
Final note:
We envisioned an exhibition that celebrates the full spectrum of femininity across cultures, perspectives, and histories, expanding beyond a Eurocentric gaze. However, coloniality continues to shape not only artistic narratives but also the resources and opportunities available to platform diverse voices. While financial and logistical constraints influenced the scope of this edition, we remain committed to challenging these systemic barriers and working towards a more inclusive and representative future. This exhibition is a step in that direction, and we look forward to creating more opportunities to amplify underrepresented perspectives.
