Anna Nezhnaya (Moscow, 1987) is a visual and performance artist based in Berlin since 2016. Educated in graphic arts at Moscow State University for Printing Arts and Graphics (B.A.) and Greifswald University (M.A.), she explores traditional imagery within contemporary contexts. Through her artworks she investigates the fluid boundaries separating physical and virtual reality. Nezhnaya uses digital drawing as a bridge to light art, creating an experimental foundation for her neon sculptures. Her practice oscillates between objectivity and abstraction across both manual and digital mediums, exploring post-internet identity formation. These explorations encompass themes of grotesque feminism, examining feminine imagery through mystical and metaphorical frameworks. Her innovative painting techniques develop experimental surface structures that challenge conventional material approaches.
