Nicolas Lawin (Germany,1990) is a contemporary artist who specializes in tape art.He has been part of the Berlin-based artist collective „Tape That“ since 2013. However, after completing his studies in communication design and working as a designer, he quickly realized that traditional graphic design was not his calling. The strict world of corporate identities did not fit in with his idea of creativity. Just as his passion did not fit into the world of advertising, the medium of adhesive tape did not initially seem to fit into the world of art either. The challenge of making adhesive tape look like painting was the beginning of his artistic work. His first artworks were in a comic style and the tape could only be recognized as such on very close inspection. Over time, digital work with design programs influenced his artwork more and more and the graphic language, which corresponds more to the aesthetics of strips of adhesive tape, increasingly found its way into his analog artworks. Be it in the creation of portraits, three-dimensional black and white hatchings or in the design of plotter graphics.
