This series draws on personal experience to explore immigration through meaningful objects people choose to carry. Faced with limited luggage space, these items reflect identity, memories, and a sense of self, rather than practicality. The project investigates decision-making amid uncertainty, highlighting how individuals hurriedly select belongings in urgent circumstances. During spring and summer 2023, Danilova met men who fled Russia following the 2022 army mobilization. Each person’s essential items were weighed on kitchen scales and documented with Polaroid photographs. Accompanying details include occupation, age, origin city, destination country, border crossing method, and total luggage weight. When items were missing, estimated weights were noted. The work reveals personal narratives within the broader context of displacement, memory, and identity.
