Based in Berlin, Camille Schaeffer is an innovative artist whose work transcends traditional boundaries by blending performing arts and interaction design. Known for creating captivating, ephemeral spaces, Schaeffer’s art invites audience participation and interactivity, transforming viewers into co-creators.

Do you remember the first time you created something? When did your artistic journey begin and what brought you to the art world? Share some highlights from your background?

As a kid, I started drawing everything around me. I was very inspired by my grandpa, who was an artist. Everything I saw, I wanted to draw, but in my own way. The landscapes and characters I drew became purely fictional.

Let's discuss the fear of failure. How do you deal with it on your artistic journey and what helps you to pursue your dreams?

I don't see failure as something negative. It helps you see things more clearly, grow, and find your direction. I embrace it as much as I embrace success, even though success is very subjective to me too.

How would you describe your artistic style and the themes you explore? How has this evolved as you've grown as an artist? Share your thoughts on your artistic approach.

I would describe my artistic style as bold. It has been influenced by my background in Performing Arts and Interaction Design. I consistently seek to incorporate movement into my work, whether through audience interaction or through the use of reflective materials that generate movement autonomously.

How do you navigate the balance between chaos and order in your art?

That is probably the biggest challenge in the artist's life: an endless research in constant evolution. A balance of both is definitely needed, in my opinion!

If your art could have a conversation with the viewer, what would it say?

Hey, how are you doing?

Finally, we would love to hear some names! What other emerging artists inspire you and also deserve our attention?

I'll pick one, and I'll choose Donna Huanca, who navigates between performance art, sculpture, and fashion. Totally bold.
