The artwork is an exhibition poster by Roy Lichtenstein.

Born in 1923 in New York City, Roy Lichtenstein was a prominent American artist recognized for influencing and founding the Pop Art movement. Lichtenstein's early works were inspired by comic strips and advertisements, revitalizing American art. Prompted by his early artistic talent, Lichtenstein studied painting and drawing from the model at the Art Students League of New York and later attended Ohio State University in Columbus in the College of Education.  He stated he was strongly influenced by Rembrandt, Daumier and Picasso, specifically Guernica.

Lichtenstein returned to OSU to complete his education and began his career as an artist and educator. In the early 1960s, he gained widespread recognition for his innovative paintings that drew from comic strips and advertisements, characterized by bold colors, thick outlines, and the use of Benday dots, mimicking commercial printing techniques. Lichtenstein's work revitalized the American art scene and challenged traditional notions of fine art. Throughout his career, he created over 5,000 pieces, including paintings, prints, sculptures, and murals. He continuously evolved his style, exploring various themes and techniques, such as reinterpreting works by classical artists like Cézanne and Picasso and delving into abstraction and surrealism. Lichtenstein's impact on modern art was profound, and his works are celebrated for their wit, originality, and commentary on art and culture. He passed away in 1997, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence and inspire artists worldwide.
