Zhou Jinhua

Born in 1978 in Sichuan Province, Zhou Jinhua studied painting at the highly regarded Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, one of China’s top art schools. Through his works, Zhou explores the interplay between reality and fiction, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of human existence and societal issues. His paintings often depict ordinary scenes infused with unexpected twists, reflecting his keen awareness of life's uncertainties and contradictions. Zhou's independent thinking and attention to marginalized communities underscore his commitment to addressing social concerns. Influenced by his experiences in Sichuan and Shenzhen, Zhou's art captures the essence of urban life, where disorder and vitality coexist. As a young artist, Zhou's journey of exploration continues, offering profound insights into the human condition and the complexities of contemporary society.

Zhou developed a unique style, playing with scale and perspective to create aerial views of tiny figures in surreal landscapes, sometimes painting on unusual surfaces such as building rubble, rooftiles, bricks, broken glass and wooden chopping boards. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Germany. Zhou Jinhua lives and works in Beijing.
