Şevket „Chefket“ Dirican
When asked who Chefket is, he doesn’t have to think twice. “Deutschraps singer-songwriter!” he says as if shot from a pistol. “No, pop sow!” he adds. Chefket has songs with messages, lyrics that touch everyone – the seven-year-olds as well as the 77-year-olds. But he also has the catchy sounds. And live, he has the crowd under control – whether it’s a handful at the backstage cypher or tens of thousands in the big halls. It’s not without reason that Chefket has been on stage in front of 50 Cent and with Marteria or Clueso. It’s not without reason that he has songs with legends like Sido and Samy Deluxe in his discography, raps and sings on beats by producer luminaries like Farhot and Dexter and has shared the booth with new-gen heroes like Majan and Kalim. It is precisely this perfect blend of rap and pop appeal, subculture socialization and mainstream catchiness, cockiness, self-confidence, but also modesty and experience that defines Chefket. This photo exhibition is his first ever and certainly not his last. He has been taking photos since he was 10 years old and has now decided to share these works with the public and take people outside his fan community on his journey through photography.
